Facebook is now a part of Meta
- At the company's annual Connect conference on October 28th, the tech giant's ambition to be known for more than social media and all the ills that entail has lead them to rebrand. The rebrand positions Facebook as one of many products under a parent company overseeing groups like Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, and more

- The Oculus name would be replaced and that the company had changed its office's iconic sign
- In 2015, Google reorganized entirely under a holding company called Alphabet, partly to signal that it was no longer just a search engine, but a sprawling conglomerate with companies making driverless cars and health tech.
- And Snapchat rebranded to Snap Inc. in 2016, the same year it started calling itself a "camera company" and debuted its first pair of Spectacles camera glasses.
LinkedIn rolls out its freelance services marketplace globally
- LinkedIn has been known best in recruitment for sourcing candidates and advertising job openings for permanent work. Now, to complement that, LinkedIn is opening up a new front in the job market for freelancers.
Microsoft is shutting down LinkedIn in China
- Saying having to comply with the Chinese state has become increasingly challenging.
Yahoo pulls out of China for good
- It pulled the plug "in recognition of the increasingly challenging business and legal environment."

US bans China telecom
- They must get out of the US in 60 days
Burger King with a side of crypto
- BK's Royal Perks members get a side of crypto with any $5+ purchase per day.
- Must use their app to order and have a Robinhood account.
- Offering Bitcoin, Ethereum and Dogecoin with varying odds as prizes are distributed.
Zoom is testing showing ads to free users
- Ads will appear on the browser page shown to users at the end of a call.
- Users on the service's Basic tier will only see ads if they join a meeting hosted by another Basic tier user.
- Until now, arguably the biggest restriction on Zoom's free tier is its 40-minute limit on the length of group calls. But Zoom's chief marketing officer Janine Pelosi writes that it needs to start showing ads to help it "support investment and continue providing free Basic users with access to our robust platform."
Microsoft teams enters the metaverse race with 3d avatars and immersive meetings
- Microsoft is entering the race to build a metaverse inside Teams, just days after Facebook rebranded to Meta in a push to build virtual spaces for both consumers and businesses. Microsoft is bringing Mesh, a collaborative platform for virtual experiences, directly into Microsoft Teams next year.
- It's part of a big effort to combine the company's mixed reality and HoloLens work with meetings and video calls that anyone can participate in thanks to animated avatars.
Paypal might buy Pinterest
- The company reportedly made a $45 billion offer on Wednesday.
- At first glance, PayPal's interest in Pinterest may seem like a head-scratcher, but an acquisition could help the company gain a foothold in the growing social commerce space.
Apple's new product line
- It just unveiled new processors, laptops and AirPods.
- M1Pro CPU, HDMI, MagSafe Chargers and multiple USB C?
